One of the main obstacles to having the impeccably clean and organised home you desire is undoubtedly a lack of time.

Despite what you think, you don’t need to slave away for days to get the result you’re after.

Let’s spring into action!

Why is a spring clean important?

Think about the past three months. Your home has been closed up, for the most part, to protect your family from the elements, you’ve battled coughs and colds, and if you’re anything like me, a consistent cleaning routine falls by the wayside a little during winter.

Now that the weather has somewhat warmed, it’s the ideal time to open up those windows and get your home hygienic and looking great again.

You’re literally giving your home a fresh start. Now, here’s how to get it done quickly.

6 Tips to Make Spring Cleaning Easy

Spring cleaning can be a tough task, but it doesn’t have to take over your life. These are some sure-fire shortcuts to get your cleaning routine on point.

1. Be Prepared

You should always have your cleaning supplies ready to go and stocked to save you precious cleaning time when the mood strikes.

After finishing cleaning for the week, double-check that you have enough of everything and make a shopping list if anything is running low.

2. Be A Multitasking Master

Life is certainly busy but making the most of the spare minutes in your day equals a huge difference when you add it all up.

Give the bathroom a wipe down while the kids are taking a bath, take a few minutes to wipe down the microwave while you’re waiting for the kettle to boil, or tackle an arduous task (yes, overflowing washing basket, I’m looking at you) while enjoying your favourite TV show.

This is a skill that can take some time to master. Keeping multitasking in mind is a great way to help keep your home in order.

3. Work Smarter and Faster

In a Popular Mechanics article, maid service owner Debbie Sardone advises that using the same order as you clean, every time, will save you valuable time in the long run.

"To get the time down, you have to be consistent—that's the whole premise," Sardone says.

"You do the same thing every time you clean, so it is a routine. The routine is the method, and that is an inherently better way to clean because the speed comes from the method instead of from hurrying. You really can clean your house in half the time. It's not a gimmick."

Deep cleans are important but for the most part, being consistent with weekly cleans (and on top of any ad hoc messes) will keep your home consistently clean, too.

Never underestimate the power of a speed clean. You’d be amazed at what you can achieve in a short period of time if you move quickly and remain focused.

4. Protect Against Kids and Pets

As much as we love them, our beloved children and pets are the worst mess-makers in our homes.

Unfortunately, there is no magic fix to stop your pets and kids from making a mess (hey, we’re not miracle workers!) but there are a few things you can do to minimise the damage.

5 ways to protect your home from kids and pet messes

  • Dinner time gets messy – pop a plastic chair mat or smaller under your child’s chair or where your pets eat their meals. It will keep your floors clean and makes for easier cleanup.

  • Keep indoor pets well-groomed to minimise how much dirt is being brought in.

  • Get your children involved in the cleaning and organising, to give them pride in their belongings and help teach them responsibility.

  • You should be vacuuming a couple of times a week if you have an inside pet, preferably using a vacuum with a HEPA filter.

  • An abrasive mat at the door is a good idea too, to stop both pets and humans dragging muck inside.

5. Shower Shine

Keep shower spray in your bathroom caddy at all times and every couple of days following your shower, give it a spray and a wipe down. When it comes to cleaning day, your shower screen will already be shining.

Want a shower spray that works extremely well and smells amazing? Our peppermint shower spray recipe works a treat and has a luscious odour.

Another great tip is to use a window squeegee instead of spraying and wiping to avoid that streaky look.

6. Hire A Professional

There are several reasons to pick up the phone (or search online!) for someone else to help you out.

Not having to do the job at all is certainly a great shortcut!

There are some jobs better left to the professionals, particularly if you’re not sure how to do it properly, have safety concerns, or just have a lot on your plate and want to know the job has been done right.

If you are planning on calling a professional house cleaner, these are a few questions you need to consider first.

Home service companies such as Electrodry undergo training and utilise specialised equipment and cleaning solutions to achieve phenomenally clean results. Some of these services include carpet dry cleaning, tile and grout cleaning, mould remediation, and wood floor restoration.
