Our four-step cleaning system uses chemistry to clean your upholstery the smart way, without damaging your sofa or armchairs. We use a specially designed dry cleaning solution to break down the oils and grease that bind dirt to the fabric. Once the oils are dissolved, it becomes much simpler to perform a hot water extraction clean, and wash out all the dirt and stains. Hot water extraction involves flushing hot, pressurised water into the fabric, and then extracting the water back out with a powerful vacuum, along with all the dirt. Our smart solutions are designed for all kinds of fabrics, to ensure we treat your lounge right.
The first step is to remove loose dirt matter with a thorough pre-vacuum.
Next, we break down body oils and stains with our dry cleaning solution.
To sanitise your lounge suite we use Healthguard to clean your upholstery and get rid of germs.
Finally, a hot water extraction clean is performed to rinse out the upholstery and leave it clean and fresh.
The Electrodry Canberra team use exclusive cleaning solutions to clean everything from heavily soiled lounge suites to chairs made of delicate natural fabrics. We have more than 30 years of experience with upholstery cleaning, so you can be sure that we will achieve the best results with your furniture.
The Electrodry Canberra team believe in a thoughtful approach to upholstery cleaning. This means we treat different fabrics differently, according to their unique needs and challenges. Here’s our approach:
Light coloured natural fabrics are often quite delicate, as well as being at risk of brown watermarks. To avoid this, white cotton and linens are dry cleaned by hand. We apply Electrodry’s specially developed dry cleaning solution to break down and remove dirt and oils.
Please note - The cleaning of natural fabrics such as cotton and linen can be more time consuming and chemical intensive than cleaning synthetic fabrics, hence an additional charge of up to $10 per seating position may apply for natural fabrics.
These are often more processed than light coloured natural fabrics, and are generally more durable. We first apply a neutral conditioning pre-spray, which prevents watermarking and stops the colours from running. Next, we treat your lounge with Healthguard, as part of our cleaning solution to neutralise bacteria and germs. The last step is to perform a hot water extraction clean, to remove the dirt. This clean flushes the upholstery with water and then extracts it back out, meaning your couch will be dry in just four to six hours.
Please note - The cleaning of natural fabrics such as cotton and linen can be more time consuming and chemical intensive than cleaning synthetic fabrics, hence an additional charge of up to $10 per seating position may apply for natural fabrics.
On these fabrics we use a pre-spray to dissolve the build-up of body oils and grease, and then a water emulsified cleaning solution on stained and soiled areas. Once dirt and oils have been broken down, we flush it all out using a hot water extraction clean.

A popular DIY upholstery cleaner for a couch is a mixture of dish soap, white vinegar, and warm water. This solution can be applied with a clean cloth and then blotted with a dry towel to remove dirt and stains. It is important to test the solution on a small, inconspicuous area first and to avoid using too much water to prevent damage to the fabric.
It's possible to use a carpet cleaner on a couch, but it depends on the cleaner's attachments and the upholstery material. Check the manufacturer's recommendations and do a spot test first.
You can use the following steps to deep-clean old upholstery:
Yes, vinegar can help to deodorise a couch by neutralizing bad odours.
Professionals use a range of methods and tools, such as steam cleaners, hot water extraction machines, specialised cleaning solutions, and professional-grade vacuums. They may also use specialised brushes or agitators to work the cleaning solution into the fabric and remove dirt and stains.
